We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Linux Engineer (Level 2/3) to join our Service Team, delivering expert infrastructure support across a multi-client environment.

In this role, you will act as a key escalation point for complex Linux-based issues, ensuring the stability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems. You will be responsible for server patching, system maintenance, performance tuning, and supporting both on-premises and cloud-hosted environments, particularly within Azure and Oracle ecosystems.

You will play an important role in supporting project deliveries into BAU, including infrastructure upgrades, cloud migrations, and automation initiatives. This position is ideally suited to someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, is passionate about Linux technologies, and is committed to continuous improvement and service excellence.

This role supports US-based clients, working to US hours. The position is fully remote.

Role Requirements:
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients, internal stakeholders, and third-party vendors
  • Experience working in a Level 2 or Level 3 Linux support role, ideally within a Managed Service Provider or enterprise environment
  • Proven experience managing and maintaining Linux server environments (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, Oracle Linux)
  • Hands-on experience with patching, system updates, and vulnerability remediation using tools such as YUM, DNF, APT, or Satellite
  • Experience with server monitoring, logging, and performance tuning to ensure high availability and optimal performance
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, storage, networking, and application layers
  • Familiarity with automation and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible)

Cloud & Database Experience:
  • Experience managing workloads in Microsoft Azure, including VM provisioning, networking, storage, and monitoring
  • Knowledge of Oracle environments, including installation, patching, and basic database support (Oracle DB, Oracle Linux preferred)
  • Exposure to hybrid cloud environments and cloud migration projects

Infrastructure & Operations:
  • Experience supporting backup and recovery processes, including disaster recovery planning
  • Familiarity with virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or cloud-native equivalents)
  • Understanding of networking concepts including DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, and load balancing
  • Experience using ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, ConnectWise, Jira)

Essential Criteria:
  • 3+ years’ experience in a Linux Systems Administrator / Engineer role (L2/3 level)
  • Strong hands-on expertise in Linux server administration and patch management
  • Experience with Azure IaaS and cloud infrastructure management
  • Knowledge of Oracle technologies (Oracle Linux and/or Oracle Database environments)
  • Familiarity with automation/configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Experience working within ITIL-based service environments
  • Solid understanding of system security best practices and hardening techniques

Desirable Certifications:
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or RHCE
  • Microsoft Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104)
  • Oracle certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Associate/Professional)
  • CompTIA Linux+

Non-Technical Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • A passion for continuous learning and staying current with evolving technologies
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team development

Hours:
  • US working hours (between 3pm - 12am SAST)
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, between 08:00–18:00 Monday to Friday EST
  • Participation in an on-call rota for out-of-hours support (additional compensation provided)
